INTRODUCTION

 





Traditional games are part of one’s heritage and cultural traditional which should be preserved but with the passing of time, they are slowly being forgotten and are not passed down to younger generations. There are various traditional games that have existed for a long time such as Congkak (filling the wooden board), Sepak Takraw (kicking the rattan ball), Wau (kite flying), Gasing (spinning top), Batu Seremban (tossing the stone) and many more. These games not only entertain but also foster social interaction, team work, physical exercise, talking, laughing and sharing experiences. All of these are essential to their growing up. Children who grow up in societies that value traditional games tend to have better social skills, higher self-esteem and a more positive outlook in life also teaching them teamwork, leadership and problem solving skills. 




On this globalization world, the traditional games forgotten because of science and technology development. The traditional games now was overlooked by young generations, the ignored and do not show any interest on this kind of games. They prefer electronic things such computer game, phone and television. Some of young generation do not know what the traditional game is. The campaign to bring back traditional games is not only the ‘games’ but it can lead to the loss of cultural identity, the loss of social cohesion and the erosion of important skills and keep them alive for future generations.
